Burlington Hiring Burlingtonians

With youth unemployment up around 13%, we need to offer better opportunities for those trying to gain experience in their field of study. With 25 years working in banks and software companies, I know first hand that consulting services is a critical component for most organizations. Companies rely on certain expertise that is not found inhouse and this is where outsourcing certain services becomes critical for better business. In Canada consulting services accounts for 28 billion and companies on average are spending 2% to 4% of their revenue on these services.

Under NO Circumstances will this new council help fund developers!!

Mayor Marianne Ward is leading the way to provide developers a break on development charges for a two year period. Numbers could be as high as 41 million in savings for developers. These monies are required to support the city infrastructure for growth. If these monies are not collected, then it will become the tax payer's responsibility. Developers have been making millions taking advantage of the housing crisis and now that the market has taken a dip, Marianne Ward wants to help her developer friends.

Community Safety

With communities in Burlington starting to hire their own private security firms, the city is failing on providing a safe environment for Burlington residents and families. A proper analysis needs to be initiated looking into the data associated with car theft and home invasion. Just saying hire more police is not necessarily the solution..

One of the challenges with having no term limits in municipal politics, it introduces a larger risk of incumbents developing relationships with invested parties that do business with the municipality...this could be businesses awarded contracts or developers getting the green light for projects.

There needs to be a structured municipal procurement frameworks in place where city contracts are bid out in such a way that embraces fairness and transparency. There also needs to be an emphasis on project planning and management, so we don't see projects taking longer than required.
